The first activity I'm going to take part in is a painting using acrylic paint.
The second activity I'm going to take part in is a ballet competition.
During one of my art lessons in the school, my teacher showed us some paintings done by James Rizzi and Romero Britto. The bold, bright colours and happiness in their paintings inspired me to try some of my own paintings.
When I saw the notice about the Royal Berkshire Festival of Dance in my ballet class noticeboard, I wanted to take part. My ballet teacher showed me some previous videos of the festival, they made me more inspired.
My class teacher thought my class about artist James Rizzi’s life. She showed us some paintings he did. I notice that he has used black lines filled in with bright colours.
I choose to recreate the painting “Birds” that Rizzi has done.
First, I started with the body which was a funny, long oval shape with a pointy end. I used circles for yes and triangular shape for the beak. I drew a stripy pattern with hearts for the background and the sun.
Then I painted the bird and the background with bright acrylic paint. I used purple for the bird's body and yellow for the beak as they are complementary colours. I filled the background with red and blue, the sun in yellow.
After the paint dried, I used a black marker pen to outline the bird’s body, bird’s features, and the background. One special thing I noticed of Rizzi’s paintings was, he gives faces to objects. So, I gave a happy face to the sun.
This is my final paintings.
This is what I found inspiring
While I was doing my paintings, I found out about the complementary colours; Also, I learn how you can make a painting happy by using bright colours and happy faces to objects like the sun. The black outline made the painting more striking.
I notice that even my whole class use the same picture to inspire. I noticed that even though we looked at the same painting of Rizzi, all of our paintings were different.
For my dance festival activity, first, my teacher asked me to came up with a choreograph. My teacher helped me a lot with the different ballet moves according to my grade and the techniques. Once we came up with the final dance my mum records the dance moves, So I could practice them.
Then I practiced my dance everyday part by part. One week before the show I met my teacher and showed her what I practice, and she corrected some of my moves. She showed me how to be graceful and elegant. And most of all smile and enjoy the dance. I got to try on the dance costume. I felt like a real ballerina.
On the festival, I was nervous. But when I saw the other dances, I felt better. When I was on the stage I listened to music and danced as I practiced at home. I felt happy and smiled at my dance. I felt like a real ballerina.
This is what I found inspiring
During this activity, I learn how to move gracefully and elegantly. Also, listen carefully to music and move according to the music. Most of all smile and enjoy the dance.
I would like to do more painting and artworks using different materials and mediums. Also, I would like to have a go at photography.
